These five videos were developed in collaboration with the NHS to support Slovak-Roma families in understanding different types of healthcare appointments for children. I was commissioned to lead this work, producing each video in Romani to ensure cultural sensitivity, linguistic accuracy, and practical accessibility. The videos explain what families can expect before and during their appointments — including how to travel to the clinic, what documents to bring, how interpreter support works, and why attending matters for the health and development of their child. Each video is sent to families via text message one day before their scheduled appointment to improve engagement, understanding, and attendance across early years and paediatric services.
Both the NHS and I have observed a significant improvement in appointment attendance and engagement among Roma families since the introduction of these videos. Providing health information in a visual format and in the Romani language has made a meaningful difference in accessibility and trust. If your organisation is interested in developing similar multilingual or community-led resources, I would be pleased to discuss potential collaboration. Please contact me via the contact page.
